F. Raymond Salemme Ph.D., Appointed CEO of Linguagen

Cranbury, N.J., June 14, 2004 - Linguagen Corp. (www.linguagen.com), a leader in the development of ingredients used to improve the taste of food, beverages, and pharmaceutical products, today announced the appointment of F. Raymond (Ray) Salemme, Ph. D., to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Salemme will be charged with setting the strategic vision for Linguagen's presence in the food and beverage and pharmaceutical markets, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company. Shawn M. Marcell, who has been serving as the company's acting CEO, will remain at Linguagen as Chief Operating Officer.

Previously, Dr. Salemme served as President and Chief Scientific Officer of 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (3DP) a company he founded in 1993. While there, he was a co-inventor of 21 U.S. patents covering DirectedDiversity(R) chemi-informatics process control technology and ThermoFluor(R) assay technology. Prior to 3DP, Dr. Salemme established drug discovery groups specializing in structure-based drug design, biophysics and computational chemistry at Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals and DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals. His experience also includes starting the Protein Engineering division of Genex Corp., among the first companies to use X-ray crystallography and molecular modeling for genetically engineering proteins.

Prior to this, he served as a professor of biochemistry at the University of Arizona, where his research was extensively published. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with exceptional distinction in molecular biophysics from Yale University, and a Doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of California at San Diego. He currently serves on several corporate, scientific and academic advisory boards, in addition to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology, and advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
